Starting from Rp9,000 per Day, JAECOO Reveals Daily Operating Costs

Through a usage simulation of 1,500 km per month, JAECOO Indonesia helps consumers choose vehicles that match their mobility needs, with estimated operating costs ranging from Rp290,000 to Rp584,000 per month.

April 06, 2026

JAKARTA, March 16, 2026 — Current global conditions have made transportation costs one of the key considerations for consumers when choosing a vehicle. In March 2026, global oil prices briefly approached USD120 per barrel, the highest level in the past four years, contributing to rising energy costs in many countries.

This situation is influencing how consumers worldwide evaluate their vehicle options. Across several major European markets—including Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, and France—sales of New Energy Vehicles (NEV) continued to show strong growth. In January 2026, NEV sales increased by 23.1% year-on-year, with the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) segment growing by as much as 37.8%.

This development indicates that energy efficiency is no longer just an environmental consideration, but also an economic factor influencing consumer purchasing decisions. Amid these changes, hybrid technology is becoming increasingly relevant as it offers a balance between energy efficiency, driving range flexibility, and overall driving comfort.

A similar trend is beginning to emerge in Indonesia. As energy prices fluctuate, prospective buyers are no longer considering only the upfront vehicle price, but are also increasingly calculating long-term usage costs, including daily energy consumption.

Recognizing this shift in consumer behavior, JAECOO Indonesia has prepared an operational cost simulation for its three product lines: J5 EV, J7 SHS-P, and J8 SHS-P ARDIS. The simulation assumes vehicle usage of approximately 1,500 kilometers per month, reflecting the average mobility patterns of urban drivers in major Indonesian cities such as Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya.

This calculation is based on daily commuting of around 50 kilometers on weekdays (approximately 1,000 km per month), with an additional 500 kilometers of travel throughout the month. According to Jim Ma, Business Unit Director of JAECOO Indonesia, the simulation was designed to provide clearer insights into the estimated operating costs of each vehicle.

“We see many prospective buyers comparing different vehicle technologies before making their final decision. Through this operational cost simulation, we aim to help consumers better understand the estimated energy expenses across JAECOO’s lineup, so they can choose the model that best fits their mobility needs,” said Jim Ma.

Based on the simulation, JAECOO J5 EV offers the lowest energy cost within the JAECOO lineup. Assuming an electricity tariff of around Rp1,700 per kWh, the estimated monthly energy cost is approximately Rp290,760, equivalent to about Rp9,600 per day—even lower than the price of a cup of specialty coffee in many Jakarta shopping malls.

This low operating cost is supported by the J5 EV’s efficiency and its 60.9 kWh battery. Based on internal testing conducted in Indonesia, the vehicle can travel up to approximately 534 kilometers on a single charge, exceeding the NEDC estimated range of around 461 kilometers. With a daily routine of around 50 kilometers, users would only need to recharge the vehicle once every few days.

Over a longer period, the J5 EV’s energy cost remains relatively low, estimated at around Rp872,000 for three months, or approximately Rp3,490,000 per year.

What about hybrid models for consumers who still want the flexibility of both electric driving and gasoline power?

The JAECOO J7 SHS-P features the Super Hybrid System (SHS) and offers a fuel consumption rate of approximately 35 kilometers per liter. With monthly usage of 1,500 kilometers, the estimated energy cost is around Rp486,814 per month, or approximately Rp5,840,000 per year.

Meanwhile, the JAECOO J8 SHS-P ARDIS, the premium model in the JAECOO lineup, still offers competitive efficiency for its class. With a pure electric driving range of up to 180 kilometers and gasoline consumption of approximately 23.7 kilometers per liter, the estimated monthly energy cost is around Rp584,793, or about Rp7,010,000 per year.

Although higher than the fully electric model, an energy cost of under Rp600,000 per month for a large premium SUV remains relatively efficient for consumers seeking a balance between efficiency and long-distance flexibility without concerns about range anxiety. The model is also equipped with an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system that enhances driving performance and stability.

On an annual basis, the contrast becomes even more significant when compared to conventional vehicles in a similar segment, which can spend over Rp1.5 million to Rp2 million per month on fuel. The efficiency offered by JAECOO therefore becomes an increasingly relevant factor for Indonesia’s current and future mobility needs.

To provide clearer insights, the following table summarizes the energy cost simulation across JAECOO’s lineup.

Beyond energy efficiency, JAECOO has also expanded its presence in Indonesia with 25 dealerships, including the latest opening in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, to support after-sales services for customers. This network expansion aligns with JAECOO’s positive performance in the national automotive market. According to GAIKINDO wholesale data for January 2026, the JAECOO J5 EV recorded 1,942 units distributed, making it one of the best-selling electric SUVs in Indonesia. The positive trend continued in February 2026, with an additional 2,926 units sold, bringing JAECOO into the top eight best-selling automotive brands nationwide.
